06:01 pm - Still a player!
I played my bass for about 10 minutes. Most of that was just noodling around and seeing if all my fretting fingers work. Answer: The pinky isn't great, but it can be made to function.

After a while I tried playing some 12-bar blues but it kept turning into Stormy Monday so I went with that.

Now my fingers are all sore. Also I have no calluses whatsoever. It will be interesting to see how I progress. Especially once I start playing faster things and the pinky gets in the way more... or not... you never know, maybe the PT exercises will do their thing and the finger of doom will keep up.

Gasp, I think I'm actually going to start practicing.

01:49 pm - Olympics rage!
I want to watch the videos on the official NBC site. Apparently as a FIOS customer I have access to all sorts of premium content. Yay, right?

Not so yay... I can watch the ads just fine, but the actual videos are all dark.

I can't even submit a help request on their 'contact us' page because the bloody captcha won't load. FUCK YOU, NBC.

Any tips for good sources? I want to watch the women's weightlifting that I slept through this morning.

06:08 pm - The giant cast of doom is OFF!
There's a knitting joke in there somewhere. Knock yourselves out.

Getting set up with a DynaSplint tomorrow. From the paperwork, it looks like I'll be getting the single-finger one that looks like it should shoot lasers, not the whole-hand dealie that looks like it should shoot Spider-man webs.

In other news, it turns out that "Sensation is returning" is just a fancy way of saying "Ow".

I haz fingers! Some of them are a little confused and groggy after their 4-week nap. Hopefully they'll come around. Also, it's gonna be a while before the left hand is actually clean.

08:29 am - Progress!
OMG YAY. Last night I was finally able to put my rings back on. So they're on the wrong hand; they are ON for the first time in almost 2 weeks. ♥

08:35 pm - numbers! (sorta)
Booty camp wrap-up meeting was today. There was video... all of it shot after I got injured, so I wasn't in any of it. Tried to be happy for people who won stuff.

I have apparently lost 3% body fat and gained half a pound of muscle. Pretty sure I gained more than that, but lost it between breaking my finger and weighing out. Le sigh.

05:31 pm - It's a sticthing miracle!
The Art Deco Lady of Doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom Junior is finished. Pictures to be posted as soon as I can get the (expletive deleted) computer and iPhone to speak to each other again.

Next up, I think I shall give myself permission to do something VERY SMALL. By an awesome coincidence, the May issue of Cross Stitch Crazy came with a free Margaret Sherry kit of a mouse flying a kite.

Does this mean I will actually be able to complete one of her designs without mucking it up beyond all repair? Let's find out!

07:45 pm - Boot camp, day 13: the weakest link
(On the "rest" days, Friday had a 30 minute walk. Saturday and Monday had shit-tons of driving. Sunday had some unstructured walking and random frolicking - above 6,000 feet, which has got to count for something, though I'm not sure what.)

Today we did a lot of repeats from day 1:
push presses (3 sets for weight and 1 drop set at the end)
lunges
reverse flyes
frog hops
windmills
chin-ups (with a GREAT DEAL OF ASSISTANCE in some cases, mine included)
and
pistol squats.

Pistol squats are interesting. They let you know if one of your knees really sucks. My right knee apparently DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. Sigh.

Can't believe boot camp is more than half over. Not sure what I'll do next.

Did terrible things to my diet over the weekend. I can apparently do the "drink too much and go berserk" thing once a month without hard. Two days in a row? Bad. Wearing my big girl jeans today, not in a good way. Getting the foods back on track but it's hard because it destroys my brain when I go off the rails like that, and it's hard to fix things when my brain is destroyed.

08:36 pm - Eclipse!
We drove to Redding (CA) to be in the path of yesterday's annular solar eclipse. It was totally worth the drive! We watched it from Manzanita Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park. There were quite a few people there, but it wasn't out of control. (Apparently the group at Whiskeytown got a bit rowdy. Glad we drove further!)

I made a pinhole projector (in the field!) from stuff I had brought along. Basically, under $1 worth of crap we had lying around the house. Yay science!

This was thoroughly upstaged when one of the guys made a cardboard cutout - I think it was supposed to be a cat, or maybe Totoro or something - and poked 2 pinholes for eyes. We all decided it was actually Batman. Hilarity!

It is amazing how much astronomy stuff you can fit into a Mini.

Things I could have done without:
* crappy service at the previously awesome steakhouse the second night;
* my husband's awesome super power of getting sick in strange cities;
and
* dire warnings from the Mini half an hour from home (the oil pressure is too low and we're ALL GONNA DIE!) which vanished before we even successfully found a place to pull off. We checked the oil. It's fine.

More on the trip later. Time to get back to laundering ALL THE THINGS.
